Which Order Should Study Skills Be Taught?
"The Process"
Process
1. With the aide of the online resources (refer to the “resources” link), go to the Anchorage School District Special Education Study Skills Links page and look at the list of study skills.
2. Select at least one site/link under each Study Skill category (you do not have to look at the “Great Study Skills Sites”). Scan the site quickly to refresh your memory of the specific skill. At the same time create a list in the order we covered the skill in class. It would not hurt you to take note of what was on the site (this could help you later on in this project). NOTE: The Anchorage School District Special Education Study Skills Links page is laid out in alphabetical order.
3. After you have looked at at least one site under each category and created your list showing the order of how we covered them. Now determine how you would have presented these skills if you were the teacher, or how they would have helped you if presented differently. Once you have created this list move on to next step.
4. Using your list from step 3, justify why you would present Study Skills in the order you selected. Regardless of your order (sequence) you need to justify why you would present them in the order you listed. You may do this in one of the following formats:
•Create a PowerPoint presentation demonstrating the order (sequence) with examples of why you would place them in a specific sequence.
•Create a flow chart (refer to Shaffer’s Study Skills, Study Skills Class) site for an example.
•Write an outline (similar to what we used to outline a five paragraph essay) in the order you would present each Study Skill. Your outline will need to have at least two supporting points per skill.
•Write a letter to your second favorite teacher justifying the sequence you believe to be correct.
5. Be sure to look at the guidance page and the rubric page for assistance.
