Test Taking Skills
Don't you hate it when you know the information but do well on test? That's when test taking skills come into play! I like to teach test taking skills using three different time periods: before the test, during the test and after you take the test.

If a student was to apply all the study skills on Shaffer's Study Skills web site, then they would have 90% of the battle won. In the "before the test" delivery of test taking skills, I like to reinforce the rewards of using good study skills. Hence the logo- "study smarter, not harder..." A critical factor in being prepared to test is be in the correct psychical mind set (plenty of rest prior, eat a good meal...).

The area most folks focus on when it comes to test taking skills is the "during the test." We cover everything from the stupid mistakes (no name on the test) to process of elimination.

The after the test portion of instruction is valuable in content areas that give comprehensive finals. Too often students do brain dumps at the end of a unit, not knowing that they will be tested again on this content.

Test taking part l, is a note taking guide that list out some suggestions for preparing to test (before you test).

Test taking part ll, is a list of suggestion to reinforce the "during the test" portion of test taking skills.

Test taking terms, is commonly used words in standardized tests.

Twelve Words Alicia, is another list of words commonly found on standardized test. I believe this was created by a student at East Anchorage High School. It is very user friendly!
